  Our Teacher

Jonette Jackson
B.M., M.ED

Jonette has lived in Chesterfield County for about fourteen years.  She began taking piano lessons at the age of eight and at the age of fourteen, she began conducting/directing the youth and children’s choir at Greater Faith A.M.E. Zion Church, Petersburg, VA.  In August of 1995, she became the musician for the youth and children’s choir at Greater Faith.  Between 1996 and 2010, she played the piano for other choirs and churches in the greater Petersburg/Richmond area. 

 

As a piano instructor, she began teaching in 1996, and in 1999 she opened Jonette’s School of Music.  In Petersburg, Virginia, she was an assistant music teacher for Mrs. Joan Reed at her studio (1996-1998).  From 2004-2007, she taught piano lessons at Don Strach Music in Colonial Heights with the former owner, Karen Pratt.  In Richmond, she was employed at G Clef Studio where she taught piano lessons for Mrs. Harriet Gilchrist, who was the owner.  From 2008-2016, she taught Class Piano and Music Appreciation at Virginia State University as an adjunct professor.

Currently, she is the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, Campostella in Norfolk, Virginia, where her husband is the pastor.  In addition to this, she is a 2003 graduate of Virginia State University with a Bachelor’s of Music and a Master’s degree is in Higher Education (Administration and Leadership) from Capella University.  Mrs. Jackson resides in Hopewell, Va with her husband Rev. Dr. Tyrone Jackson, Jr. and their daughter, Tyla.
